{/googleAds} 'The writing bug has bitten him, and however hard I tried to persuade him to focus all his attention and energies on his  studies and the engineering course he is doing, for which we left Kolkatta, he persisted and now the novel has come out. I only hope he finishes of his course with good grades so that he can enjoy a well settled life,' Pushpendu's father told Samiksha Bharti News Service.

The spark of creativity hit him some years ago when he began writing short poems at the Air Force School. Soon his talent was noticed by his teachers and he became a popular anchor.

His father, a medical practitioner, was opposed to what he calls his 'literary adventurism,' because success in an engineering course from Dayalbagh could alone guarantee a secure future for Pushpendu and his family. 'He, being the only child of our family, is naturally pampered, and we all expect him not to lose focus from studies. But his mother always comes to his support and prevails on me to let him do what he thinks is best for him. We left Kolkatta to make Agra our new home, all for Pushpendu’s future and therefore I don’t want to take any risk.'

Pushpendu responds in a nonchalant manner, 'Papa is worried for me and keeps pestering me with his sane advice to give up writing to focus on studies, but mummy is always by my side. It took me a year to finish of my maiden literary effort and I am hopeful the readers will like it. Its not a usual campus story.'

Chetan Bhagat of course has been an inspiration but Pushpendu wants to emulate Javed Akhtar. 'If given a chance, or circumstances turn my way, I want to join the Bollywood industry as a creative script writer. I am sure I will make it.'

Pushpendu is already busy mentally with his second and third novels. “I want to write, keep writing, I have so many ideas, and each passing day I am learning, growing and enriching myself from experiences. My real supporters have been my teachers at school particulary Madam Gulati who I can never forget or repay her debt.”

Priced Rs.150, the 224 page novel revolves around the conflict between desire and destiny. It’s a romantic tale of three friends, with fate playing the cruel sport.

The plot is interesting, events and accidents of fate move at a pretty fast pace. Pushpendu’s style is contemporary but linguistic flaws could have been minimized if the publisher had bothered to get the manuscript edited by a professional.

The writer has allowed free flow to his imagination and fantasies, in his bid to grip the reader and engage him to the end. But, still Pushpendu has miles to go and many short-comings to address. This being his first creative work, one only hopes his pen will not rest and we will get to read many more.

Talking about himself Pushpendu says he was 'born on 30th August 1992 in Kolkata, where I spent three years before relocating to Agra. I carried my schooling from Air Force School, Agra and presently pursuing my Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (Second Year) from Dayalbagh Educational Institute.

'I started writing poems when I was in 11th standard. With appreciation from my teachers, I continued writing poems. Soon it became my new passion. I started writing articles and speeches for various functions at school. After reading Chetan Bhagat’s three novels back to back, I got inspired and motivated in this writing field and thought that someday I will also write a book. Almost two years passed, I kept on reading more novels from different authors. To name one of my favorite is Novoneel Chakraborty.'

Pushpendu said he had originally planned to write a book on his school life, but after two chapters he gave up. ‘True Love Desire-’ my recently released book’s concept was on my mind. Earlier, I thought of writing it as my second book, but it became my debut work in the literary field.

Right now he is working on his  second novel which will be a character driven novel. 'I wish to become an engineer and a writer. My first book ‘True Love Desire’ has came out in April 2013 under Cedar Books (An imprint of Pustak Mahal).'
