Addressing the valedictory function Prof. Irfan Habib, an eminent historian and Professor Emeritus from the Department of History said that his experience with regard to translation is limited to the translation of Persian texts into English. He found it difficult to exactly translate the meaning of Persian word ‘Hasrat’ into English. He said that Urdu is the literary form of Hindustani language comprised of ‘Prakrat’ and other languages. He pointed out that Sanskrit, Persian and Arabic languages have developed a scientific spirit. He talked about the 19th c translation, Scientific Society and its aim of bringing English works into Hindi and Urdu. He suggested that translators should not invent new terms because more invention creates more isolation. The terminology of the translated text must be known to readers or taken from the classical period. We should accept the Latin terminology by using brackets.

The other suggestion was that translation must be close to the spoken language. He also said that Urdu should have a proper punctuation system and the knowledge of English is also essential. He ended his lecture by saying that this translation programme which is aimed at transferring knowledge to Urdu must be usefully performed. We need successful translation projects.

 Dr. VK Abdul Jaleel, Registrar, AMU that a great task has been undertaken by the Center for Distance Education (CDE). The Nation Translation Mission is formed by the Government of India to secure the domain of knowledge. He also congratulated director of CDE and Central Institute of Indian Languages, Mysore.

 Dr. G. Vijayasarthi from National Translation Mission (NTM), Central Institute of Indian Languages (CIIL), Mysore said that we came here with distinctly designed tools for translation and met with senior professors and scholars. We had questions with regard to the need of subject glossary and other. We have to standardize the subject glossary, share the knowledge both from English and classical language.

Dr. Arshi Khan from the Department of Political Science said that the purpose of this workshop was to test the ability and potential of the participants. It laid the base for a mega project, which is needed to be undertaken by the CIIL, Mysore. It was a moment of learning from each other including senior professors from various departments and scholars. Prof. Wasim Faridi said that the session of the workshop was a brainstorming one. It is better to put the subject essence in the presence of subject experts.

Finally, Dr. Md. Rizwan Khan, Director, Centre for Distance Education, proposed the vote of thanks and said that around eight faculties out of twelve did participate in this workshop including Life Science, Social Science, Commerce, Law, Medicine and other.
