Know about the dictionary of martyrs of India’s freedom struggle


1. This five-volume zone wise dictionary contains an account of the 13,500 martyrs from India’s First War of Independence in 1857, to India’s Independence in the year 1947. It includes ex-INA or ex-military personnel who died fighting the British regime.

2. This dictionary also includes the martyrs of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre, the Quit India Movement, Civil Disobedience Movement, the non-cooperation movement, Revolutionary Movements, Kissan Movements, Tribal Movements, Royal Indian Navy Upsurge and soldiers of the Indian National Army, agitation for responsible government in the Princely States, among many others.

3. In this dictionary, a martyr has been defined as a person who died or who were killed in action or in detention or was awarded capital punishment while participating in the national movement of India.

4. It is the first attempt at compiling the names of martyrs on this scale.
