Agra / Mathura: In the aftermath of heavy rains that wreaked havoc in western Uttar Pradesh, including Mathura and Agra, Wildlife SOS' Rapid Response Unit has successfully saved more than 100 reptiles from the adverse effects of the flooding.
The severe inundation led to the displacement of various reptile species as their natural habitats and burrows were submerged, pushing them to seek shelter in urban areas.
The recent heavy rains not only resulted in flooding but also forced reptiles out of their flooded habitats, leading to a rescue operation by Wildlife SOS. The rescue efforts primarily focused on species such as the Indian rock python, spectacled cobra, Indian rat snake, checkered keelback, and Bengal monitor lizard, among others. This migration increased the likelihood of human-reptile conflict, making immediate intervention crucial.
Kartick Satyanarayan, Co-founder and CEO of Wildlife SOS, commented on the situation, stating, “The heavy rains have created challenging conditions for both people and wild animals. Our team has been working around the clock to ensure the safe rescue and relocation of these displaced reptiles. It is vital that we provide immediate assistance to prevent harm to these creatures and to maintain safety within the city.”
