{/googleAds} A large number of poets, activists and writers from all over Braj Mandal participated in the programme organised by Shabdam, an NGO headed by Kiran Bajaj, that began with prayers at the poet's samadhi in Mahavan near Gokul.
Ras Khan born around 1548 was a muslim who later fell "in love with Sri Krishna." His real name was Sayyad Ibrahim and is known to have lived in Amroha. He was a disciple of Goswami Vitthal Nath of the Pushtimargiya sampradaya. Ras Khan spent most of his life in Braj singing and reciting "pads" poems in praise of Sri krishna till his death in 1628.
Dr. Sri Bhagwan Sharma, eminent Hindi scholar, in his keynote address highlighted the contribution of Ras Khan who "being a muslim was more intense and passionate bhakt of Sri Krishna than most Hindus. He was denied permission to enter temples in Vrindavan but later Sri Krishna himself ordered Vitthalnath ji to allow him in. The doors of the temple were then opened."
Sharma said the poetic traditions of the Braj area should be conserved as a valuable heritage.
Ras Khan spoke both Hindi and Persian, translated the Bhagwat Puran into Persian. His shrine is located in Gokul near the Yamuna river, Bhramand Ghat. It is a very peaceful place. Many Krishna devotees come there to pay their respects and meditate, Dr. Chandra Kant Tripathi told Agratoday.in.
The poetry of Ras Khan focuses on Lord Krishna. "Lilas" of Lord Krishna, such as Bal Lila, Chir Haran Lila, Kunj Lila, Ras Lila, Panghat Lila, and Dan Lila, were his favorite subjects. Apart from Lilas, Raskhan has also created poems on Lord Shankar, Goddess Ganga, and the Holi festival.
Raskhan is widely acknowledged as a great poet, having dedicated most of his creations to Lord Krishna. Sujan Raskhan and Prem Vatica are some of his available creations. Raskhan Rachnavali is the collection of Raskhan's poetry. His creations describe the beauty of not only Lord Krishna but also his relations with his beloved Radha.
