MP Leads Protest Against Foot Over Bridge

Katheria demanded immediate removal of all the construction material as "it was disfiguring and spoiling the grand view of the college building. This has to be done within a week, so that the beautification works going on ahead of the Commonwealth Games, in Agra are completed in time."

The foot over bridge (FOB) ostensibly to ease traffic pressure on MG Road, was launched by Katheria's own party leader, the mayor of Agra, Anjula Singh Mahaur.

Talking to Agratoday.in, the mayor said "some people are trying to create problems and obstructing the construction of much needed over bridge, but we will certainly go ahead with the project."

The principal Dr. FM Prasad, staff members and students have been protesting for the past three months to stall the construction. The Alumni Association of St John's College has also joined the protest along with several other voluntary agencies. "It is an ugly eyesore and must be speedily shifted to some other place. These bureaucrats should consult landscape architects and others engaged in the task of heritage conservation in the city," Surendra Sharma, president of the Braj Mandal Heritage Conservation Society said in a statement.

Katheria has given a week's time to the district authorities. "After a week there will be bigger protest marches and demonstrations, "Katheria told media persons.
