Make Agra A Child-friendly City

STREET SMART KIDS

This is a concept to identify one particular street and close it for a day to traffic.

The central road between Azad Petrol pump and Sanjay Talkies, in the Sanjay Place commercial complex, has been identified by us. And the day selected is Sunday from 10 am to sun-set. On this road, children could be provided facilities for playing, workshops on theatre, singing, music, entertainment, health camp, book-stalls, reading room, food stalls, drawing and painting enclosures, seminars and interactions, with support from various NGOs and citizens groups and service clubs, corporates and state financial institutions. The Sanjay Talkies could be persuaded to hold a morning show for children. Stalls can be put up by magicians, story tellers, potters, painters, craftsmen. A stall for video shows can be included.

PARENTS OF THE MUNICIPAL PARKS

The Agra Nagar Nigam can appoint parents of various parks that belong to the Nigam. The parents will not only look after the parks’ maintenance but also ensure safety of the children using the parks and provide basic facilities.

Under your leadership and dynamic guidance the Nigam has already resurrected an almost dead institution like the John’s Public Library. We think we should now move one step ahead. You should hold meetings with district authorities and the police to make our roads safe for children. Zebra crossings close to schools painted and with signboards will help. The general level of cleanliness around the parks and schools should be high.

We hope you will take the necessary initiatives and make Agra a truly child-friendly city. More ideas could be incorporated after people get involved in this exciting venture.

Yours truly,

Brij Khandelwal
