The overwhelming desire to achieve the ‘Vishwa Guru’ status has reached an alarming level. The Modi government speeds forward like the Vande Bharat Express, bypassing the essential foundations that support meaningful growth. However, this trajectory will yield an incomplete and skewed development, primarily benefiting the upper middle class and capitalists, while the common man remains a passive recipient.
Currently, all political parties engage in a race to distribute enticing ‘revdies’ focused solely on seizing power rather than genuine progress. Our economy is being shaped into a fertile consumer market at the expense of self-respect and dignity, which can only come from hard work and integrity. It’s time to awaken our collective conscience and build from the ground up.
It is time for the government to focus on small but important issues instead of dreaming big. The initiative to build toilets was good, but ensuring their proper use and maintenance is important. Cleanliness will come not just from campaigns but from solid implementation.
The condition of roads also needs to be paid attention to. Potholes, faulty traffic signals and jams are still common. Roads should not just be shiny, but durable and safe.
Improving the condition of government hospitals should be the top priority. Quality and expansion of facilities in health services is the right of citizens. Similarly, it is important to strengthen the education system at the grassroots level. Only better schools, qualified teachers and modern facilities can lay the foundation of an educated society.
After all, basic needs like clean air and safe drinking water are still unmet. Paying attention to issues like the environment and water is the measure of real development. The Modi government should understand the ground reality before dreaming big. The development will be meaningful only when every citizen's life improves.
Socialist thinker Ram Kishore says, “Construction of toilets was a good step, but India will now have to ensure their regular use and maintenance. For cleanliness, it is essential that toilets are cleaned and maintained properly and citizens are made aware of their utility. If we want to solve our health problems, we will have to take concrete steps in this direction at the local level."
River activist Dr Debashish Bhattacharya says, “The condition of roads, which are an integral part of every citizen’s daily life, also needs to be taken care of. Roads should be in good condition, repairs should be regular, paint should be good, and traffic signals should be working properly. Traffic cameras are also necessary to maintain discipline on the road. Even today, traffic jams are common in many cities, which not only waste time but also affect the mindset of people.”
Social activist Padmini Natrajan believes that facilities in government hospitals are another area that needs the government’s attention. Regular audits of hospitals should be conducted to identify shortcomings and improve them. Expansion and quality of facilities is a must. Citizens should feel satisfied with the availability of healthcare services, especially when their lives depend on it.
"The infrastructure of education should also be in order. It is essential to develop the basic facilities of schools and colleges and adapt them to the times. We have to improve the quality of education at the grassroots level. Only by improving the level of education can we move towards progress," says public commentator Prof Paras Nath Chaudhary.
Supreme Court lawyer Ankur says that there is also a need for improvement in the police system. It should be the priority of a democratic society that the common man gets justice quickly and at a low cost. The local administration should also show transparency and accountability in its work.
Modiji, please see below. Include the problems related to the common man in your agenda. The working style of local bodies and state governments has to be improved so that the public can be satisfied with the government.
