{/googleAds} Akhilesh Yadav outlined the importance of power for development. For industrial growth we need energy. Areas which were industrially advanced had adequate power supply, according to surveys, Yadav said.

The Samajwadi Party government in UP was focusing on speedy development of this sector. He hoped the power situation not only in Agra but whole UP will qualitatively improve with these two projects. Agra and Meerut will now gain and be able to meet the increased demand for power.

Jyotiraditya M Scindia said the new projects were link between the past and the future. India is developing fast and the foundation of progress is based on energy supply. From 55,000 mw energy production in the 11th five year plan we have increased the target in the 12th five year plan to 2 lakh 26,000 mw. Last year too an additional generation of 20,000 mw was achieved. He said the grid system tied the states and cities into a common link.

The present inter-state transmission of 31850 mw will be increased to 65550 in the 12th plan. Scindia said the 765 kv single circuit Agra-Meerut line will ease pressure in Delhi and Haryana, Punjab and Rajasthan. Through the 6000 mw HVDC transmission line from Bhutan and north-east hydel projects load centres in northern region will have additional power availability. This is one of the longest transmission lines in the world.
