First it was Uma Bharti who demanded dissolution of the assembly. Kalyan Singh followed it up with saying it would be a natural fall-out of the BJP's electoral victory. Several other BJP leaders have been saying the same thing in the past few days.
 
Kalyan Singh in his election speeches in Kannauj area said the Samajwadi Party government in UP would fall within three months. He claimed 40 MLAs of the SP were in contact with him.
 
Reacting sharply UP chief minister Akhilesh Yadav asked the Election Commission to take serious note of the statements of Kalyan Singh and Uma Bharti who should be immediately served notices. Talking to mediapersons Akhilesh said these statements of the BJP leaders were a clear threat to democracy.
 
On the other hand, Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav claimed several BJP leaders were in direct contact with him to halt Modi's march to victory.
 
BJP leaders however said "it was an expression of helplessness and frustration of Mulayam Singh Yadav. State BJP chief Laxmi Kant Vajpayee said "its a sinking ship of Mulayam so everyone is fleeing away while  ours is the smooth sailing ship."
 
Unease with existing equations and undercurrents of realignment of forces after the May 16 election results  can not be ruled out. "While the Congress and the Samajwadi Party look destined to fragment, it is the silent march of the Mayawati party that is keeping political strategists on tenterhooks. For all you know the elephant could turn the dark horse," says political analyst and president of Socialist Foundation in Lucknow Ram Kishore.
