Police identified the dead as Rakesh (18), Ajay (19), and their uncle Sukhpal (40) who were rushed to a local nursing home where doctors declared them brought dead.
As news reached the village, hundreds of villagers rushed to the hospital and collected the bodies without post-mortem. The main road was blocked and police men attacked. A large police force has now been rushed to the village.
Police said the three were engaged under MANREGA and were filling up a tractor with scooped earth for raising a village road, when the mud caved in burying them under the heap.
Villagers promptly managed to pull them out but it was too late.
CO Khairagarh was reportedly injured as the angry villagers attacked all and sundry outside the private hospital.
