IMD's regional office in Lucknow told Agratoday.in Thursday morning, "this was the lowest temperature recorded in the region."
District authorities have closed the schools. The senior secondary schools will open only after 9.30, ADM city Arun Prakash said.
The number of tourists visiting Agra has gone down in the past two days. "But the tempo will pick up at the week-end," said hotelier Sandeep Arora.
Domestic tourists faced chilly wind at the rear of the Taj Mahal which many said appeared to have frozen up "standing against a murky foggy ambience."
City markets remained deserted Wednesday evening as people were hurrying to get back home. As anticipated the night shelters put up by voluntary groups were packed to capacity and people herded around bonfires lit up by the Agra Municipal Corporation.
Ravi Singh, a farmer of Barauli Aheer block said "so far nothing to worry. The recent spells of drizzle have helped retain moisture in the soil, so there's no fear of frost damage to standing mustard and potato crops immediately. Farmers need to keep watering their fields at regular intervals."
