To save the birds and increase their numbers, Rajeev has been distributed specially designed nests made of mud clay. "The nest design is cool, comfortable and functional," Rajeev told Agratoday.in, after organizing a promotional programme at the local Surya Nagar park.
Rajeev said, "Till last year I used to distribute water pots for the birds. In the dry summer months the birds died of thirst.
But when these pots were widely distributed we found smaller birds, mainly sparrows which are fast depleting, returning to homes."
‘Due to urbanization and concrete structures coming up all over, the birds find it difficult to build their nests. Also there is the additional problem of monkeys in Agra. The rampaging simians don’t allow the birds to settle down in their fragile homes."
Rajeev has now procured beautiful nests made of mud, from Ahmedabad.
"One Paresh Bhai in Ahmedabad has designed the nests and assured me he would send any number of pieces to help save the birds. Paresh is a teacher in an engineering college and is totally devoted to saving birds at any cost," Rajeev said.
Bird lover Abhinay Prasad who has made his home a haven for birds, says "It is a timely initiative. People should fix the nests at a safe point away from the reach of monkeys, in the backyard, or on the terrace. A water pot can be placed close by. I am sure the birds would love the nest and return. Life would indeed be dull and boring if the birds stopped chirping. The winged guests are a reliable indicator of the healthy environment."
