Lt. General Dalbir Singh was commissioned in the Army on June 16, 1974. During a career spanning nearly 40 years, he has held various Command and Staff appointments.He has done National Defence College, Long Defence Management Courseand Senior Command Courses.

Lt. General Dalbir Singh is presently serving as Vice Chief of the Army Staff since January 1, 2014. Earlier he commanded Eastern Army Command.
