Paying rich tributes to the founder of the University, Sir Syed Ahmad Khan, the President of AMUSU Abu Affan Farooquee said that the University came into existence after great hardships faced by Sir Syed Ahmad Khan and it is our responsibility to preserve its honour. He said that the Students’ Union would not allow anyone to damage the prestige and the glorious image of the University.

He urged the students to keep up with the rules and regulations of the institution and nobody would be allowed to go against the rules. He vowed that the Students’ Union will protest if anyone takes the law in his or her hand.

Farooquee said that the democratic rights of the students will be restored and efforts will be made at all levels to restore the minority status of the University. He said that the Union will take the issue to the Parliament for a specific law to restore the minority status, if needed.

The newly elected President demanded that Wi-Fi services be made available to the students, admission form fees be reduced to make more affordable, an emergency service be started at Tibbiya College Hospital, girl students be provided buses for easy conveyance and girls be given representation in Women’s Cell. He also urged the University administration to establish a Central Placement Cell for providing better employment avenues to the students and the timely payment of scholarships to the research scholars.

The Vice President of the Union Syed Umar Ahmad Qadri assured the students of representing their sentiments and carrying forward their wills and wishes. He said that we should respect the great sacrifices of the students who carried an agitation and sat on Dharna for restoration of the AMU Students’ Union and thank them for their great job. He said that we are sorry for the incident of setting of Vice Chancellor’s Lodge afire in 2007 and demand an enquiry into the case. He said that the tendency of hall shifting should be changed and the girl students should be provided with better medical facilities.

Addressing the students, the Honorary Secretary Amir Qutub said that AMU students cast their vote for electing their representatives upholding the democratic values instead of voting for regionalism, casteism or religion. He said that in the age of globalization, the students should work for the development of their hidden skills.

Classrooms should be equipped with modern facilities and should be transformed into ‘Smart Classrooms’ and labs should be well equipped. Qadri reiterated that we do not hate anybody but the adverse policies should be changed.

Assuring the newly elected Union of their full cooperation, the defeated candidates for the posts of President, Vice President and Honorary Secretary said that the students’ interests will be honoured and nobody will be allowed to sabotage the interest of the students and the prestige of the University.
