"Today's young generation is not able to cope up with stress and takes extreme steps when confronted with stark reality or a situation not of one's liking," says social activist Netra Pal Singh, counsellor for the All India Women's Conference.
In past 24 hours four persons in Agra committed suicide, out of extreme despair and frustration.
25-year old Lalit Baghael of Radha Nagar in Kamla Nagar area, threw himself before a running train to end his life. A suicide note recovered from him said he was committing suicide as he was tired of his health and "nobody should be held responsible for this act."
Family members informed the police that Lalit who worked as an electrician in a shoe company had fractured his leg in an accident. He had been operated upon but there was no improvement.
In the Kidwai Park area under Lohamandi police station, a hotel manager committed suicide because he was being transferred frequently. Vivek Srivastav, 25, an MBA, working for a hotel chain in Delhi, hanged himself to the ceiling fan. When his wife Mukti, working for ICICI bank in Agra returned home she was shocked to see her husband hanging dead. Vivek had returned a week ago on being transferred from Delhi to Mumbai. The police is investigating the case, but Mukti said Ajay was feeling harassed and frustrated at being transferred again and again.
In another case a father of three kids consumed poison to end his life. According to Sadar Thana police the deceased Ganesh worked at a book stall at Agra Cantt station and had three kids. Family disputes and tension with his wife were said to have forced him to end his life. A police official said in a number of cases it was noticed that maladjustment within the joint family set up was proving too much of a strain for many young wives.
Friday evening a teenage girl in Etmauddaula Thana area ended her life. Family members without informing the police cremated her body in a hurry, leading to suspicion. The case is now being investigated.
