{/googleAds} It was on 11th March 1891 that the Department was established as Imperial Records Department at Imperial Secretariat Building, Calcutta with GW Forrest as the First Officer in charge of the Department.
The Foundation Day Celebrations were formally inaugurated by the Additional Secretary, Ministry of Culture KK Mittal. A Foundation Day Lecture was also delivered by noted Historian and Tagore Fellow Sabyasachi Bhattacharya, Former Chairman of Indian Council of Historical Research.
The theme of the lecture was `The Foundations of the Archival Policy of the Indian Government: Towards Independence’. Two bilateral agreements on co-operation in the field of Archives were also signed by National Archives of India with the National Archives of Portugal and NRAA, Oman 2014-2015.
