Don’t Just Watch And Curse… Do Something… Be The Tipping Point…

This ACTION PLAN has been drawn up after a series of meetings and interactions with a cross-section of public opinion.

All conscious citizens and action groups are requested to focus on these points and demand from government agencies effective implementation of these suggestions at the earliest.

You may please share, forward and circulate this Action programme. Agra can not wait. We have a right to safe, hassle-free and convenient movement across the city.

You can take out prints of this and send to all officials responsible for traffic management in the city…

THE ACTION PLAN

1. Agra roads need to be widened and cleaned of debris; some statues and memorials need to be shifted...

2. One-way traffic system should be introduced on selected roads;

3. Lane driving discipline has to be enforced....no abrupt changing the lanes;

4. Traffic signals and rules should be followed strictly....more challans and penalties;

5. Encroachments should be removed immediately;

6. Urgent steps needed to force auto rickshaws to follow rules and norms;

7. Agra has to be made pedestrian-friendly and cycle-friendly with dedicated lanes;

8. Agra needs dependable and hassle-free public transport system;

9. Restrictions on entry of three and four-wheelers in crowded places and streets;

10. Identification and maintenance of parking slots with reasonable fees.

What our readers say...

In my opinion, 3 additional points should also to be taken into consideration if found suitable to you all…

1. Fix number of auto rickshaw approvals for the city. Seems there is absolute chaos in the city because of indefinite numbers.

2. Driving Licenses should be issued only after proper investigation of all mandatory requirements for the same.( May decrease the numbers of drivers at least by 20-30%).

3. Implement Mandatory bus services for all schools of the city for their students pick up drop in. No private vehicles shall be allowed for pick up and drop in, in the school premises except on PTM and for emergency needs.

You are absolutely right but for information there are many reports of experts lying in ADA and Nagar Nigam waiting for implementation. The problem is half hearted efforts. We need effort which should be done from start to end, than only change can be visible. We need implementation of right or wrong report fully after taking stakeholders in confidence.

Are we ready?

Regarding Infrastructure - first few low cost modification need to be tried than only final infrastructure need to be developed.

Hope you all will agree that whatever has been done till now to improve traffic of our town is just not enough, excellent suggestions have been given by you all, now the question is how and from where do we start to get a solution of this complex problem.

I feel to tackle this problem we need to coordinate with the Police and administration by taking up the following issues;

a) Traffic Management: the first thing we should do is to ask the administration to hire experts to help them to manage the traffic in a scientific manner and enforce traffic rules strictly. This would only be possible if politicians do not interfere and we the citizens extend our cooperation.

b) Encroachment's: This is a very grave problem created and supported by us, for our personal benefits we are encroaching footpaths, roads, drains, water bodies etc. which leads to acute traffic problems. All the business and Social organizations should unite, educate people and discourage their members from encroaching public properties and cooperate with the administration to enable them to bring down temporary and permanent encroachments.

c) Infrastructure development: A lot has to be done in this area, The State and The Central Government have totally failed in providing proper infrastructure like good roads, parking lots, flyovers and elevated roads, proper public transport system, footpaths, over bridges and underpasses for pedestrians and alternate roads, drainage etc. For infrastructure development PPP models and FDI should be encourage by the Governments, we should try to convince them.

Well, I am sure that loud thinking by persons who matter will positively yield good results.

I appreciate your concern on traffic issues in Agra, surly day will come our dream of improvement in traffic to be true. Experts advice is important, professionals are available in all the sectors but issue is implementation, there should be will to implement.

We can not blame the people, we are the part of system, unfortunately in Agra the system which exist SURVIVAL OF FITTEST ONLY. We are the same people when we are out of UP, even cross KOSI use BELT follow rules, because system works there, we follow in Delhi, we follow in all parts of the world.

Here what we follow which is fit to survive.

What we need to force administration to implement system. Argument of administration so called politicians in Agra create chaos and don’t allow to make success is rubbish, such political niceness is in every state, Administration have to be strong to deal with, even we can bear with such exceptions but problem in mass will be solved.
