4-day Workshop On ‘Traditional & Contemporary Art Of India’ At AMU


 

 While presenting the presidential remarks, AMU Vice Chancellor Prof. PK Abdul Azis hoped that the workshop would establish congenial relationship between art and the art lovers and it would help students and working artists to understand the delicacies of the art.

 

 Women’s College Principal, Prof. Bilquis Naseem Waris said that the nature of art is changing globally owing to the changing lifestyle of the people.

 

 Dr. Madhurani, Coordinator of the Workshop said that emphasizing on the untapped potential of common man, the workshop underlines the significance and vitality of art in everyday life. The workshop strives to visualize and translate an urban space as seen around us because of the daily shift in the means of ex-pression such as digital, traditional or mixed media of art.

 

 Dr. Madhurani said that the difference between contemporary and traditional art in India continue to be contested and debated in the art circle while the artists of India are making their presence felt at international level. The concept of contemporary in India is no longer guided by only the metro cities but a strong voice is also emerging from the smaller cities.

 

Imroz, a veteran artist and art critic, exhibited his art work and demonstrated various techniques of painting. Professor Zahoor Zargar, Dean, Faulty of Arts, Jamia Milia spoke on variety of art practices.

 

Meenakshi Bharti, Reader, Kanodia Degree College, Jaipur displayed some of her exhibits and gave demonstration also. Dr. Ambalika Jacob, Reader in Punjabi University, Patiala expressed her opinion on how a thought process can be put on a canvas. Dr. Ajay Jaitley, Chairman, Department of Visual Arts, Allahabad University demonstrated how in a few seconds he could create marvels on canvas. Mandeep Sharma, a renowned miniaturist demonstrated miniature technique.

Participants from all over India are attending the workshop. Dr. Ishwar Chand Gupta, Reader, DS College and a recipient of IFACS award is also among the participants. Dr. Neelam Seth, Dr. Hemlata, Dr. Sunita Gupta, Jaffer, Daljeet Kaur, Dr. Sadana Singh and Dr. Rekha Kakkar are also attending the Workshop.
