"All is well that ends well," sportspersons at the end said heaving a sigh of relief, after being distressed by mismanagements and lack of proper arrangement for their stay in "Agra's cold and chilly weather."
The 4-day meet was more in the news for the lack of facilities for the sportspersons from 23 states. "But a visit to the Taj Mahal has refreshed us and in a way made our trip eventful," said an athelete from Haryana.
Supported by SAI, the UP directorate of sports had organised the meet. Karnataka and Delhi scored 19 points each and were adjudged joint winners. Haryana with 18 points was second. UP's dismal show was the talk of the tournament, with just a bronze medal to Ambey Yadav in Shot put.
Divisional commissioner Sudhir M Bobde and district magistrate Amrit Abhijat gave away the prizes in the absence of UP's sports minister who could not make it. The Agra Vyapar Mandal presented Agra Petha packets to the sports persons.
DM Amrit Abhijat said "this was the first such major event held in Agra. We have learnt many lessons and if there was another event in future, we will certainly do much better."
Thursday evening, after the prize distribution programme, it was fun time for the sports persons from different states who danced and frolicked to filmi and Punjabi bhangra songs.
