18 Point Programme To Save Yamuna


During the rally, demonstrators demanded their 18 point programme to clean Yamuna river.

18 Point programme is as follow--

* Immediate cleaning of ghats.

* Dredging and de-silting of the river bed.

* Shifting of transport companies from Yamuna Kinara road.

* Stopping parking and washing of trucks at Haathi Ghat.

* Ban on Dhobies washing clothes in the river, a separate enclosure is needed for them.

* Immediate plugging of all open drains and nullahs emptying into the river without treatment.

* Firm action against polluters; stopping direct release of effluents from industries in Mathura, Agra.

* Continuous monitoring of pollution levels at a dozen points along the river between Mathura and Agra, and release of reports on a weekly basis.

* Minimum flow of water in the river round the year to be ensured.

* Work on downstream barrage on Yamuna to be commenced soon.

* Demolition of all structures in the flood plains of the river.

* Installation of aerators, diffusers and sprinklers on the river bed.

* Stopping use of insecticides and pesticides, by cultivators on the river bed farming.

* Release of water from Okhla and upstream barrages.

* Activating river police.

* Shifting dairies and stopping cattle from entering the river.

* Immediate dismantling of the controversial Taj Corridor and greening the whole area.
