Mathur worked for the Times of India and earlier for AP.
As a ‘socially conscious’ journalist specialising in tourism, he left a mark and mentored younger journalists till the end. As an active member of various journalists' unions, he played an important role, according to Dr Neville Smith, a veteran journalist of Agra.
Mathur cremated at the Taj Ganj shamshan ghat, in the shadow of the Taj Mahal.
