Speedy Train, Questions Of Safety Cause Unease...

On Tuesday the semi-high speed train Gatiman Express during its trial run from Agra to Delhi sliced two children Arvind (10) and Yogesh (8) as they were crossing the track near Runukta station. The train had already picked up speed around 160 km.

That was not all. Just before the outer of Mathura junction station, the pento of the train got trapped in the OHE line forcing the train to halt. The Agra-Delhi route was affected for more than an hour, according to the PRO at the Agra Cantt railway station.

The railway board has asked for detailed inquiry to be conducted in both the cases.

Although the seventh trial of the Gatiman Express has been completed, the authorities are still not clear when the green signal for the new train would be given. The train will have hostesses like in flights.

The train on Tuesday reached Agra in 110 minutes instead of 90 as was promised earlier.

Whether the train would be allowed to run without raising the boundary walls on both sides of the track all the way from Delhi to Agra, is a question now being debated in the official circles. Still, about half the distance is to be covered. "Walls on both the sides have been constructed to secure the tracks from unwanted stray animals and intruders, but some stretches the work is still continuing," an official said.
