{/googleAds} The state education department held a farewell programme for more than 100 teachers who retired on June 30. Neelima Paliwal, who retired as principal of Gopi Chand Shivhare Girls Inter College said 'it was a very thoughtful gesture on the part of the state government to think of the concerns and problems of retiring teachers.'
At the Youth Hostel, the Bright Organisation of Youth held a programme to facilitate senior citizens. Respect Age International also held a programme. KP Singh of the Taj City Senior Citizens' Welfare Society also organised a conference on old age and honoured distinguished senior citizens of the city.
The population of senior citizens was growing fast, as life expectancy had increased due to better amenities and health services, it was pointed out. The government should open geriatrics' wards in hospital for special treatment for the elderly, speakers said.
