He was on a two-day visit along with his mother, Dr. Ejaz Fatima and father, Dr. Tajammul Hussain yesterday.
Pakistani guests were welcomed by officiating Vice Chancellor, Prof. S. Abrar Hasan, Registrar, Prof. VK Abdul Jaleel, Finance Officer, Yasmeen Jalal Beg, Proctor, Prof. Mujahid Beg, Principal of Zakir Husain Engineering College and Technology, Prof. Ekram Hussain, Media Advisor, Prof. NAK Durrani, Public Relations Officer, Dr. Rahat Abrar and Deputy Registrar, Dr. Nazim Husain Jafri by presenting bouquets. On behalf of the district administration, the police personnel presented a guard of honour to Dr. Asim Hussain who enjoys the status of a federal minister.
Dr. Asim Hussain has emotional relations with Aligarh. His maternal grandfather, Dr. Sir Ziauddin was one of the most famous Vice Chancellors in pre-independence era.
In view of the yeomen services rendered by him, a residential hall and the Dental College have been named after Sir Ziauddin by the University to keep his memories alive.
The mother of Dr. Asim Hussain, Dr. Ejaz Fatima grew up in Aligarh and completed MBBS from Lady Hardings, Delhi before migrating to Pakistan where she made important contributions in the field of health services by establishing a chain of hospitals. She has also established a Medical University in memory of her illustrious Sir Ziauddin in Karachi. Dr. Asim Hussain has expanded the University adding new courses and now he is also the Chancellor of the University.
Dr. Asim alongwith his family members became emotional after going down memory lane. They also visited their ancestral house at Zia Compound on Maris Road.
Dr. Asim Hussain along with his parents visited the Women’s College where his mother had her early education. The visiting team was received by Prof. Bilquis Naseem Waris, Principal of Women’s College. The team had an interaction and exchange of views with Prof. Nikhat Taj, Provost, Abdullah Hall, Prof. Anwar Jehan Zuberi, Senior faculty member and former Vice Chancellor, Calicut Univerfsity, Prof. Suraiyya Husain who happened to be the classmate of Dr. Aijaz Fatima and other senior faculty members of the college. Prof. Bilquis Naseem Waris presented a memento to the guests from Pakistan.
The team also visited Chhatari Compound and was received warmly by Nawab Ibne Saeed Khan of Chhatariwho showed them photographs of pre-independence days.
