Hundreds of passengers in Mathura, Agra and Bharatpur are stranded.
Railway officials said the trains were being diverted as the protestors were sitting on railway track at Piloo ka Pura near Bharatpur. Some reports said the track had been damaged.
Gujjars are demanding reservation in state government services in Rajasthan. The Rajasthan High Court has stayed a government order on 5 percent reservation.
Half a dozen trains were diverted through Agra Cantt railway station to avoid Bharatpur Monday evening, including Rajdhani Express.
Monday morning the convener of the Gujjar Arakshan Sangharsh Samiti Kirori Mal Bainsla led hundreds of protestors towards the railway track after the Maha Panchayat at village Fareri. By evening reports said there were more than 15,000 protestors at the site. Hundreds of them had come prepared for a long siege with food items and woollens, quilts.
Bainsla told media persons that his talks with the divisional commissioner in Bharatpur had failed.
Efforts were now on to make the agitation state-wide, he added.
His representatives have said talks can now be held only with the chief minister Ashok Gehlot.
