The High Commissioner said that India is a democratic country and the media has full freedom while Brunei is a small country where there is no management crisis.

He said there are two universities in Brunei and the media world comprises two TV channels along with the publication of two newspapers. Brunei is an economically strong country and there are many prospects for employment for people of Indian origin. Most of the doctors and engineers in Brunei hail from India, he observed.

The High Commissioner said that the act of management of diplomacy is witnessing a paradigm shift from nurturing government to government relations to building effective people to people relationship. He said that culture and communication have assumed a new meaning and are being used a vital instrument of social transaction and discourse for furthering the objectives of diplomacy in modern times.

Haji Sidek Ali said that AMU is greatly respected in his country and the Education Minister of Brunei laid the foundation stone of KA Nizami Centre for Quranic Studies in AMU in July 1999 and the AMU honored him with the D. Lit. Degree Honoris Causa.

AMU Registrar Prof. VK Abdul Jaleel said that we would like to get into a memorandum of understanding with Brunie Darussalam in order to give impetus to the mutual cooperation and support in the field of academics and research. Prof. Jaleel said that the founder of this great seat of learning, Sir Syed Ahmad laid ample emphasis on the religious education besides the contemporary learning and it is pleasing to note that there is also an adequate arrangement of religious as well as contemporary education in Brunei. He said that the students would learn a lot from this interactive meet with the guest.

Prof. NAK Durrani, Chairman, Department of Mass Communication and Media Advisor welcomed the Brunei High Commissioner. He said that Brunei is a forward looking nation with strong traditional underpinnings. It has evolved a vibrant educational model aiming at a harmonious fusion of both materialistic and spiritual dimensions of social life. Briefing on the purpose of organizing the interactive meet, he said that the students from Management and Mass Communication streams and Women’s College should get acquainted with the development trends and career oriented phenomenal changes witnessed in the science of modern diplomacy over the last decade.

The High Commissioner of Brunei paid tribute to AMU founder, Sir Syed Ahmad Khan by laying floral chadar at his Mazaar. He also visited Sir Syed Academy and the Prof. KA Nizami Centre for Quranic Studies.

Earlier, AMU Vice Chancellor, Prof. PK Abdul Azis while receiving the Brunei High Commissioner emphasized on nurturing stronger people to people relations and furthering ‘looking east’ policy by the nations of Asian region.
