Akhilesh said pilgrims from all over the country and the world come to Braj area, which once developed would send out a positive image of the state and the country. "Our government has therefore focused on taking up infrastructural projects for the development of the whole Braj area. We still have two years, so whatever people think is needed can be discussed and taken up as a project. We will do our bit, but the locals too have to come forward in maintaining and supporting the programmes."
Rudra Kund is a fine example of great work creatively done. Government projects should also try and meet international standards.
Akhilesh said his government's laptop distribution programme was unprecedented in the world. Some people however called it a ‘jhunjhuna’ (toy). But we have continued with the programme with some improvements.
The UP chief minister said the poor and the kisans were closest to the socialists who have always strived to solve their problems and give them a fair deal. But still there is a lot of poverty and we should not forget that in terms of population UP stood fourth in the world.
The Samajwadi Party government was trying sincerely to give people better roads, better health facilities, including ambulances and assured power supply. The pension scheme had benefitted more than 45 lakh old people. "We want the poor to avail of our health programmes and any one in dire need of medical assistance can contact the government and we will give adequate financial support in case of serious ailments." A letter to the government would be enough.
Akhilesh said the Braj Heritage Development Board will be constituted soon to give a directional push to holistic development. Drains and sewer lines would be constructed in Goverdhan. More water would be made available through the Agra Canal. Goverdhan will soon become a tehsil. The holy hill town will have a bypass road. The approach road to Kokila Van will be four-laned. He also promised a "paryatan police" for Braj area. Roads to Barsana, Nand Gaon, Kosi and Goverdhan would be widened.
The chief minister said he was particularly happy that a good part of the Braj heritage had been preserved. Unlike in other parts of the state in the Braj area "you can still bhajans and folk songs on mobile phones."
Earlier the Braj Foundation Chairman requested the chief minister to provide solution to the drainage and sewer and the garbage problem in the Braj area. He urged the chief minister to get the encroachments in Goverdhan demolished. Vineet Narain said instead of green the whole Braj was turning brown and grey due to concrete structures coming up everywhere.
