Lt. Governor of Delhi Najeeb Jung, Minister of State for Tourism and Culture Dr. Mahesh Sharma, Minister of State for Road Transport P. Radhakrishnan and other dignitaries were also present on the occasion. 

The inauguration took place simultaneously with the Prime Ministers of the two countries flagging off Kathmandu-Delhi-Kathmandu bus service from Swaymbhu Terminal in Kathmandu. 

The proposed route of the bus service is New Delhi-Lucknow-Gorakhpur-Sunauli-Bhairahawa-Kathmandu. Both sides will be running at least one bus on daily basis. The service is being operated by Delhi Transport Corporation. The regular bus on this route will leave Delhi at 10 AM and reach Kathmandu at 4 PM next day with four halts enroute at Ferozabad, Faizabad, Sunauli (Border) and Mugling in Nepal. This bus service will cover the distance of 1250 km between two cities in about 30 hours. The bus is equipped with telephone No. 009711008279. 

Speaking on the occasion, Nitin Gadkari highlighted his Ministry’s initiatives towards reducing the level of pollution caused by road traffic. He said that the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has been considering to convert old diesel buses into electric buses. He added that e-rickshaws have now been modified and soon they would ply on the roads in Delhi. One of the major concerns of his Ministry is to end the problem of traffic jam in Delhi, he further added. 

The Cabinet has approved the signing of a Bilateral Agreement for the regulation of passenger traffic between India and Nepal on the sidelines of the forthcoming SAARC Summit in Kathmandu on 26-27 November.
