Several organizations and corporators had demanded that the painting presented to her be kept in the Taj Municipal museum along with the Seven Wonders Trophy she received in Lisbon in 2007 when the Taj Mahal was voted as number one wonder.
Anjula gifted the trophy two days ago to the municipal commissioner Ram Mishra to be placed in the museum, but when people asked her to keep the Hussain painting also, she refused, saying that it was a private gift. The two silk prints have been signed by Hussain.
Corporators feel that the mayor in all fairness should have given the paintings to the museum like the trophy she has presented. But the mayor thinks the paintings are her personal property. The mayor's five year term is about to be over in a couple of months.
The Mumbai businessmen had bought paintings from MF Hussain worth `100 crores, some years ago, according to newspaper reports.
Srivastav now wants to present two albums of MF Hussain paintings for the Taj Municipal Museum opened recently in the Paliwal Park.
Meanwhile, the mayor's eligibility to contest election from a reserved seat has been questioned and a committee constituted by the Allahabad High Court will examine her caste certificates and other credentials. Anjula Singh Mahaur, as BJP candidate contested the mayoral election from Agra which was reserved for backward women.
