{/googleAds} The blame game by the Bhartiya Janata Party and the Samajwadi Party leaders has intensified and the Bhartiya Kisan Union has jumped into the fray. A struggle committee was formed to spearhead the movement.

Tension continues in the Gokul rural hinterland which is still simmering with discontent and anger against the police and the district administration for delaying compensation for the land acquired for the Gokul barrage catchment area and the large-scale arrests of protesting farmers.

Leaders of the group spearheading the movement against the state government said 25 villagers were missing. "They are either in police custody or have fled to escape arrests," farmer Ramesh Nishad said.

The Bhartiya Kisan Union staged a dharna at the "Holi" crossing in Damodarpura, demanding immediate compensation, unconditional release of those arrested and free treatment of those injured in the police cane charge Saturday. A struggle committee has been formed.

In Damodarpura villagers torched the effigy of the district administration.

BJP leaders are strategizing on ways to impart a fresh momentum to the farmers' movement for justice. The party's state leadership has criticized the Samajwadi Party government which has not been able to compensate farmers in 16 years. The farmers have no circulated a ten-point charter of demands. They now want four times the compensation decided earlier, in terms of the new land acquisition Act recently passed by the centre.

But the despair and frustration is clearly visible on the farmers' faces as the expected support from political parties has not been coming. Farmers Gauri Shankar, Narayan and several others said they were worried about the future of their children. "We neither have the land nor the means to venture into new fields to sustain our lives," Pati Ram and others said.

District authorities and the police officials are in no mood to relent. Three FIRs have been filed against 586 persons. The search for those named has been intensified which has forced many to flee villages.
