A Joint Action Committee Formed For Clean Yamuna


 

 In the meeting, it was decided to coordinate and bring on a common platform various groups of people working for Yamuna river in Braj Mandal, so that a focused and time-bound programme of action could be launched.

 

 The conference recognised the urgency of the demands and the intense passion of the citizens to save their life line river Yamuna.

 

 A JOINT ACTION COMMITTEE ON YAMUNA comprising members of various groups, organisations, environmentalists and citizens associations, trade and manufacturers associations, tourism industry leaders and various other segments, has been formed to coordinate activities and work on a common minimum programme basis, agreed upon by the constituents.

 

 A basic document that lists around 18 major points, has been adopted as a frame of reference.

 

 Sub committees will be formed in course of time and more people invited to join the committee, to provide expertise, and resources for various programmes.

 

 Speakers at today's conference felt there should be united action and more focused approach to environmental problems affecting the Taj Trapezium Zone as a whole.

 

It was unanimously decided to take up two projects initially: one, the cleaning of the Mantola Nullah for which Harvijay Bahia has been authorised to pick up his team and study the problem to evolve a proper strategy for action. All others can join him in this major operation.

 

The second project relates to development of at least one Yamuna ghat. The Hathi Ghat where work has been left incomplete because of the transfer of the municipal commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey, will be taken up for restoration work.

 

For action on other demands sub committees would be shortly constituted.

 

Meeting was attended by 45 persons from various organisations in the city. Seniors like Pt. Chandan Lal Parashar, Harvijay Bahia, Ashok Jain CA, Bhagwanji Agrawal, Sunil Vikal, Mridul Pathak, Shyam Singh Yadav and many others supported and assured all help to the Joint Action Committee, which will meet once a month to review and monitor work.
