‘80K Chemical Used Worldwide Posing Great Threat To Environment’


 

 Eminent environmentalist, Prof. Hasan pointed out that the globe is facing a new threat of e-waste and with 155 million cell phones and 250 million personal computers in South Asia, Bangladesh, China, India, Myanmar and Pakistan would end up into 90% of the e-waste. He also mentioned that the 70% people are working on the piles of waste in Delhi, which causes a direct affect on their health.

 

 Prof. Hasan also mentioned the ill effects of nuclear waste, electronic waste and domestic waste and urged the scientists to develop a consciousness about environmental awareness.

 

 Dr. Shadab Khurshid, Chairman, Department of Geology said that Prof. E. Hasan is a distinguished environmental scientist working in the field of Environmental Engineering and Geo-medicine. He is serving in the USA for last 30 years and has made a remarkable contribution in the field. He has been honored by several prestigious awards.

 

 Dr. Khurshid also welcomed the AMU Vice Chancellor, Prof. PK Abdul Azis who is an oracle to this institution and recently opened a new era by establishing AMU Centre at Murshidabad and Malappuram overcoming all the barriers in this path.

 

Prof. S. Imtiaz Hasnain, Coordinator of the University Extension Lecture introduced the guest speaker. He said that in July 2009, the Geological Society of America’s Engineering Geology honored him with its ‘Meritorious Services Award’ for sustained contribution to the profession.

 

AMU Vice Chancellor, Prof. PK Abdul Azis presided over the extension lecture and Prof. Abha Laxmi Singh, Dean, Faculty of Science also graced the occasion.
